Completing Your AYSO Training

Your AYSO training may require a combination of on-line and/or in-person events. Please follow this link for instructions on how to complete your training. Reach out to your Division Coordinator or Regional Coach Administrator ([email protected]) with any questions.

The Coaching Team

Teams will be restricted to two coaches, with rare exception such as youth coaches. You may choose a co-coach or head/assistant coach pair, or we can help pair you with another coach. This helps us insure we have an adequate number of coaches to meet our demand and avoid turning kids away, as well as helps us maintain competitive balance amongst teams.

With recognition that some coach teams prefer having a third co-coach to cover when both coaches cannot make it to a practice or game, as well as to meet our need for referees and meet your teams’ need for CVP points in the 10U division, we will allow a third coach per team as long as that coach is also certified as an AYSO referee. That person will need to complete the training both for the coach position and the referee position. Please contact your Division Coordinator or Regional Coach Administrator with any questions.

Burlingame Cup and Cup Volunteer Points (CVP)

Following the end of the 'regular season', eligible 10U thru 14U teams will play in a round robin / knock-out cup competition. Teams are randomly seeded into the tournament; there are no regular season standings so teams can focus on player and team development. The 16U and 19U teams will play in the Area tournament. The Burlingame Cup winner of each division (10U thru 14U) will compete in the Area tournament in December in Foster City.

In the 10U Division, to quality for the end of season Burlingame Cup, each team needs to accumulate 9 Cup Volunteer Points. These are accumulated as follows:

  • 2 points per refereed game for a new adult referee (i.e. one that was trained this season)
  • 1 point per refereed game for a returning referee
  • 1 point per refereed game for youth referee (up to a maximum of 4 points)
  • Points are not awarded to untrained/uncertified referees
  • Returning referees should be a close relative / guardian of a player on the team

See here for a summary of the Burlingame Cup rules.
