Welcome new and returning referees and thank you for volunteering. Your support is essential to giving our players a great soccer experience. Read on to learn about becoming a referee and see what's new for the 2013 Fall Season.

Registration and Training

AYSO referee training is a well developed national cirriculum taught by certified instructors. Follow the steps below to become a Certified AYSO referee. No training sessions are currently scheduled in our Region at this time.

1. Register or update your volunteer registration. Go to eAYSO.org, become a member, register as a Region 63 volunteer referee, and write down your ID #. First-time registrants, print out two copies of the volunteer forms and send them with a photocopy of your driver's license to Nigel Walker, 20 Howland Hill Lane, Burlingame, CA 94010. (ID verification can also be completed at the on-site registration, May 5, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Burlingame Rec Center.)

2. Sign up for a training class. Go to eAYSO.org. Sign in using your eayso passwod and click on "Enroll to take a class". For classes in Burlingame search "Region 63" for classes in the area, search "Section 2" and "Area N".

3. Complete Safe Haven online training at AYSOtraining.org. Safe Haven certification is required for all adult AYSO volunteers. Returning referees should have already completed Safe Haven and are not required to repeat this course.

Referee Development and Mentoring

Experienced referees support and mentor new referee on game days. You will become a full-fledged referee in a postitive and educational environment.

U10 Referee Volunteer Point (RVP) System
Each U10 Divsion team will be asked to provide two new volunteers to be trained as Basic Referees. The new recruits can be parents, family and friends, or youth (11 and older). New referees will be affiliated with their respective teams. These referees will earn points toward their team's Division standings when they referee games.

On-Field Mentoring
New referees will start as Assistant Referees, usually in the U10 Division. An experieced referee will be assigned to referee these games and support new referees as they learn game day procedures and how to apply the laws of the game. Mentors also help ensure that coaches, parents, and referees work together to give players a positive soccer experience.
