AYSO - Coach, Spectator and Player Misconduct Rules

VOLUNTEER, SPECTATOR AND PLAYER MISCONDUCT

ALL VOLUNTEERS and SPECTATORS are to conduct themselves in a polite and courteous manner appropriate for youth recreational sports from the time they arrive in the vicinity of the field to when they leave it.

ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

Coaches and/or volunteers must abide by the following AYSO policies

UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

All players and volunteers have the right to participate in a safe and positive environment. It is a violation of AYSO guidelines to engage in or encourage others to engage in the following behavior

  • Improper verbal conduct such as insults, slurs or unwanted comment
  • Improper visual conduct such as derogatory posters or gestures
  • Improper physical conduct such as blocking normal movement or interference with the normal activity.

REPORTS of UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

It is the responsibility of the game day referee to evaluate conduct of players, coaches, volunteers and spectators involved in a game (see attachment). In the event that a player, volunteer or spectator is sanctioned, a review committee consisting of AYSO region 63 board members will review the decision of the referee and determine the appropriate punishment (if any) to be imposed.

PUNISHMENT

COACHES

FIRST OFFENSE3 points deducted from team’s standings and a 1 game suspension
SECOND OFFENSE3 points deducted from the team’s standings and the coach will be banned from all games and practices for the remainder of the season including all ‘post-season’ play.

If a coach is suspended he/she will not be allowed to participate in their teams games as a spectator for the duration of the suspension.

VOLUNTEERS AND SPECTATORS

FIRST OFFENSE1 week suspension from all AYSO games, practices and associated activities.
SECOND OFFENSESuspension from all AYSO games, practices and associated activities for the remainder of the season

COACH, VOLUNTEER AND SPECTATOR EJECTIONS

All ejections from AYSO games shall be considered as offenses under the above guidelines.

PLAYER EJECTION

‘HARD’ REDSerious foul play, violent conduct, spitting, offensive/abusive language or gestures.

Player must sit out the remainder of the game and leave the field and area of play. Team plays with one fewer player. The player will miss at least the next (and possibly more) games.

‘SOFT’ REDDeny goal by hand, 2nd Yellow

Player must sit out the remainder of the game. Team plays with one fewer players. Player may return the following game unless.:

Second send off in the same season (player to sit out one game). Third send off in the same season (player to be expelled for the remainder of the season).
