We are pleased to continue our participation in the AYSO EXTRA Program for the Fall 2012 Season.
AYSO EXTRA program is a separate inter-city, more competitive soccer league entering its third year for our Area. Participants must play on a regular fall season team to qualify for participation. The program is designed to provide a more challenging level of play for players who possess the appropriate interest, skills, and abilities. Player experience and individual growth is enhanced through the game of soccer while retaining the AYSO spirit, organization and six AYSO philosophies: Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams (by team formation by region), Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, and Player Development.
Burlingame plans to field one boy’s and one girl’s team in each age division (U10, U12, and U14.) Burlingame, Redwood City, San Mateo, and Foster City have all committed to field teams in each age group so that we will have at least 4 teams in each division. There may also be a couple games against teams from the Palo Alto area
Players MUST Attend One of the Scheduled Assessments to Play
Players from all participating cities will attend a combined multi-city assessment for Area 2N (Belmont, Burlingame, Foster City, Hillsborough, San Carlos, San Mateo, Redwood City); assessments are open to all players registered for AYSO Fall soccer in Area 2N.
Players are REQUIRED to attend ONLY one of the assessment sessions to be placed on a team.
AYSO players registered in cities that are not fielding a team are also invited to participate in the assessments and will be placed on a team from one of the participating cities, close to their residence.
Players however will be placed on their home team (for example, Burlingame Region 63) or a nearby team if their home region is not fielding a team.
Each player’s assessment will take approximately one hour and they will receive a written report at the end of the assessment.
Please check our website for further information regarding signing up for a assessment time slot on a particular date or to find out if the time slots on each date have been divided by age.
Player selection to an EXTRA team is based upon a competitive assessment conducted by trained and independent evaluators hired from UK Coaching Camp staff and trained for the evaluation by AYSO Nationally certified coaches. The EXTRA coaches do not conduct the assessment.
Mandatory Assessment Please see Make Up Assessment at the top of this page. All other assessment dates have past.
Field locations/directions: available at the Area 2n Website
Equipment: please come prepared to play with soccer shoes, shinguards, soccer socks, shorts, sunscreen, and plenty of water.
Fees will be set to cover incremental costs associated with the EXTRA program (uniforms, fields, etc.).
A few EXTRA details:
Players will be evaluated by independent evaluators that are not coaches in AYSO using the National Open Tryout Procedures for AYSO Extra Programs.
Players who participated in EXTRA program in the past must tryout if they want to try to make an EXTRA team.
The games will be scheduled between roughly September 18 and October 21.
Players will generally play at least ¾ of each game; no player will play 4 quarters unless every other player that arrives on time to the game has played at least 3 quarters.
No player will play goal keeper for more than two quarters in any game.
Any experienced and properly certified coaches wishing to apply to coach an Extra team should contact our EXTRA program coordinator (see link below). Only experienced “positive” coaches with good references for their coaching skill and style will be considered.
If you have questions about Burlingame AYSO EXTRA program or you wish to apply to be an EXTRA coach,
please contract our EXTRA coach coordinator Doug Solomon
