Winter League Information
Burlingame AYSO is now accepting applications from AYSO certified coaches that wish to be considered as coaches for our 2014 Winter Teams. Additional information and application requirements are below. Due to timing issues relating to the formation and preparation of our teams, applications are due no later than noon PT on Saturday, November 9, 2013.
General Winter League Information
Burlingame AYSO traditionally enters one boys team and one girls team in the Area 2N Winter League for each of the following age divisions: U10, U12, and U14. This year we intend to add a U9 boys and girls team as well, subject to adequate player and coach interest and other logistics. The Winter Teams are “select” type teams that compete with other Winter Teams from the other cities in our Area.
Our participation in the Winter League will be contingent upon securing the necessary field commitments from the city of Burlingame and/or San Mateo High School Union School District and work related to that has already been underway.
Details relating to Winter League:
- Saturday games on turf fields. Games are played in all weather except for unsafe conditions (i.e., lightning)
- Mandatory coaches meeting: Monday, January 6, 2014 (Coach and/or Asst. Coach MUST attend)
- 8 weeks of games: January 11 (Sat) through March 1 (Saturday)
- Practice time: Not guaranteed but in past year’s we were able to secure Sunday practice time only.
The Winter League rules are available at the follow site (and may still be subject to slight updates for 2014):
Coach Applications and Due Dates
Any qualified coaches interested in coaching a Winter Team are encouraged to submit their name, contact information, and interest in coaching to our AYSO Burlingame Winter League Coordinator at email@example.com Coach applicants may include a brief personal statement supporting his or her application if desired. If you include a personal statement, please include information relating to your previous experience with AYSO and your level of certification. Coaches will be selected in accordance with the Winter League Rules. The selection shall be by a committee consisting of the Regional Coach Administrator and the Regional Winter League Coordinator and then the selected coaches must be approved by the Regional Commissioner in order to be appointed. We will make our coach selections promptly following the application submission deadline and those applicants that are not selected shall be notified after the coach positions have been filled.
Coaches must be AYSO certified coaches that are certified to at least the age group that they plan to coach and must meet all other applicable AYSO coach qualifications such as Safe Haven Certified, Concussion Awareness Training and being an active registered AYSO volunteer. In addition, coaches must be “positive coaches”. Only positive, instructive and encouraging coaching will be permitted pursuant to the league rules.
